An iOS app designed to empower underprivileged and disabled kids around the world with STEM education.

This app offers educational resources to underserved kids who might have limited internet access and/or are disabled (e.g. blind, deaf, etc.). Partnering with a nonprofit organization, Amrita-Seattle, this app will be deployed to kids with limited internet access in the mountainous region of Ladakh (near the Himalayas), in India. This app will help educate these children about STEM. Living in such a mountainous region, the kids can only come down to the base stations in the Summer, when the snow melts, but are isolated in the mountains during the winter. The plan is for the kids to download the app in the Summer and then use throughout the rest of the year when they lack a stable internet connection.

Introducing Firefly, the essential iOS app designed to empower underprivileged kids around the world facing unique learning challenges. With limited internet access or disabilities like visual, hearing, or speaking impairments, these kids often struggle to access quality STEM education.

But Firefly changes that. Using cutting-edge technologies like Speech Synthesis, Speech Recognition, CreateML, CoreML, and Vision, Firefly delivers a library of immersive STEM articles and learning tools that support these students like never before.

The app's intuitive navigation system designed using SwiftUI and UIKit elements makes it easy to explore the knowledge library, covering everything from Fundamental Sciences to Climate and Environment.  With PDFKit and Speech Synthesis, students with special needs can listen to articles and pause/play whenever they need.

But Firefly is more than just a library. It also includes four learning tools designed to help underserved students achieve their full potential, the Document Reader, Book Recommender, Object Recognizer, and Transcription Service.

All of these utilize state-of-the-art technologies, tools, articles, APIs, and models, while processing and storing information on-device so that the app can work offline, making them accessible to students without an internet connection.

With a clean interface, Firefly is easy to navigate and supports VoiceOver for students with special needs.
